On 2 February 2022, the police arrested a suspect for hijacking of a White Toyota Quantum at Majakathata Taxi Rank, St George Street in Bloemfontein.
It is alleged that three males approached the driver of the Quantum at the taxi rank at about 04:10 and asked him if he was the owner of the vehicle. As he was about to respond one moved his hand to the waist as if he was pulling out a firearm.
The driver jumped off the vehicle and ran away.
The suspect then drove off in the taxi and two others drove away in a Silver Toyota Corolla. The driver raised alarm and the people at the taxi rank gave chase following the hijacked Quantum.
The police on patrol noticed the chase and joined. The Quantum was stopped in Kolbe Avenue and the 22-year-old suspect was arrested. A case of carjacking was opened at Parkweg Police Station.
