Bloodied Okapi knife found in Brendin Horner's bakkie after Police released it to owner

An Okapi pocket knife with dry blood on it was found in the Toyota bakkie that was driven by Brendin Horner on the evening he was murdered, and that after the bakkie was in the possession of the Police for two and a half weeks. This is very significant because the knife can possibly contain DNA samples that can be vital to link a suspect to the murder.

According to evidence heard in the bail application of the two suspects accused of Brendin’s murder, only one suspect could be linked via DNA. For this reason the other suspect was released on bail.

The knife was found by an employee of the local Toyota garage after the bakkie was fetched from the Police on request of Mr Gilly Scheepers, the owner of Bloukruin farm where Brendin worked.

Mr Scheepers was very upset when he spoke to the media and asked how on earth is it possible that the Police could overlook such vital evidence?

The Police denied that there was such a knife in the bakkie but still went to collect the knife from Mr Scheepers. The fact that they went to collect it shows that they are not so confident in their own version of events.
