The Bloemfontein K9 Unit arrested 8 suspects and confiscated more than 4 tons of copper cable.

On Wednesday 13 July 2022 at about 09:00, members from the Bloemfontein K9 Unit held a stop and search operation near the Verkeerdevlei toll gate. While there, members saw a suspicious white truck approaching from Bloemfontein heading towards Winburg.

The truck was stopped and 4 males in the cab were requested to exit and the driver asked to open the cargo door. After he opened the door, members found four other males and about 4,2 tons of suspected stolen copper cables.

The 8 suspects were requested to provide paperwork indicating ownership but they failed.

Further investigations revealed that the copper cables were stolen from a Railway company in Eastern Cape Province and were en-route to Gauteng.

The stolen copper cables worth an estimated value of R900 000-00 and the truck were confiscated.

All eight suspects were arrested for possession of suspected stolen goods, damage and tampering with infrastructure and contravention of the Immigration Act.

The suspects will appear in the Verkeerdevlei Magistrate court soon.
