In a successful intelligence-driven operation, members of the Bloemfontein Flying Squad arrested three men on Wednesday for the possession of suspected stolen livestock and an illegal firearm.
The operation, which took place on September 3, 2025, was initiated after police received credible information regarding a truck transporting stolen animals along the N8 highway, traveling from Botshabelo towards Bloemfontein.
Acting swiftly on the tip-off, the law enforcement team located and intercepted a Mercedes-Benz truck matching the provided description. A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 18 cattle believed to be stolen.
The three male occupants of the truck, aged 64, 25, and 24, were then searched. During the search, officers discovered a 9mm Glock pistol in one of their bags. Preliminary investigations revealed that the firearm had been reported stolen in Ladybrand in 2024.
All three suspects were taken into custody and are expected to face charges related to the possession of suspected stolen property and the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. The recovered livestock have been impounded as the investigation continues.
