Reitumetse Moeng (28) and Moeketsi Calvin Motloung (48) appeared before the Bethlehem Magistrates Court on Monday, 14 July 2025, facing charges of fraud.

The duo is accused of fraudulently receiving monthly salaries of approximately R10,000 each from the Dihlabeng Local Municipality without ever reporting for work. The alleged scheme came to light in 2021 when Bethlehem Serious Corruption Investigation detectives were alerted to suspicious entries on the municipality’s payroll.

Following an extensive probe, investigators gathered evidence and submitted it to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) for a decision on prosecution. After reviewing the case, the NPA authorized legal action.

On 14 July 2025, Moeng and Motloung were arrested and brought before court, where their case was postponed to 14 August 2025 for further proceedings. Both accused were granted bail of R5,000 each and released pending their next court appearance.
