
The Frances Baard District Commissioner, Major General Charlotte Makgari, has welcomed the conviction and sentencing of 38-year-old Kelibilemang Bella Molifi for murder.
The conviction relates to a fatal incident that occurred on the night of 7 December 2024 at approximately 23:30. The victim, 40-year-old Gaoretelelwe Godfrey Abie, was visiting friends in the Mataleng area of Barkly West when the accused, Molifi, arrived at the premises.
According to the case details, Molifi was looking for neighbours. After being informed that the individuals he sought were not home, the deceased, Abie, intervened and reiterated the same information. This led to an altercation between the two men.
During the ensuing confrontation, Molifi fatally stabbed Gaoretelelwe Godfrey Abie.
The case was brought to a conclusion on Friday, 29 August 2025, in the Barkly West Regional Court. Kelibilemang Bella Molifi entered a plea of guilty and was subsequently sentenced to eight years’ direct imprisonment for the crime of murder.
