Bainsvlei Post Office burglary: 14 000 SASSA post bank cards stolen, suspect arrested

On Friday, 26 March 2021 at about 13:00, Parkweg Tactical Response Team conducted an intelligence driven operation and kept surveillance on a suspicious male who was spotted at corner of Hills and Henry Street in Bloemfontein.

Upon seeing the police, he dropped a blue sports bag on the ground and tried to run but was apprehended by members. The sports bag was searched and two boxes with SASSA Postbank Cards were found.

The suspect was arrested after he failed to an explanation the possession thereof. Confirmation was received from the SASSA office in Bloemfontein the Post Office that the cards belonged to their offices.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the cards were linked to a business robbery case where four unknown suspects forced entry at a Post Office in Bainsvlei and stole seven boxes containing 14 000 SASSA Post Bank Cards and fled the scene with a white Toyota Avanza.

The 34-year-old suspect from Rocklands in Bloemfontein will appear in Bloemfontein Magistrates’ court soon for possession of suspected stolen property.
