On 16 March 2021 at about 18:00, Phuthaditjhaba Tactical Response Team members conducted an intelligence driven operation following information about an alleged planned business robbery at one of the filling stations around Qwaqwa.

A safe house was identified and members approached it. The alleged suspect was standing outside the house carrying a backpack. He attempted to flee when he saw the police however he was swiftly nabbed by police.

The backpack the suspect was carrying was searched in his presence and an unlicensed firearm with one magazine and ten live rounds of ammunition were found.

The 45-year-old suspect was arrested and will appear before the Phuthaditjhaba Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 18 March 2021 on a charge of possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
