Two male suspects, aged 33 and 38 will appear in Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 27 June 2022 on charges of attempted murder, defeating the ends of justice and reckless and negligence driving. This follows a shooting incident that occurred near Pellissier in Bloemfontein.
On Friday 24 June 2022 at about 19:15, Parkweg police received a lookout from Reddersburg SAPS about heavily armed suspects who just robbed a liquor store in Aliwal North.
An activation plan was immediately executed and two vehicles, fitting the same description circulated, were spotted near the Casino. Police attempted to stop both vehicles, a White Mercedes Benz and Maroon Toyota Hi-Lux. Both vehicles failed to stop and a chase ensued with the suspects firing shots towards the police. Police retaliated.
Police managed to intercept the Toyota Hilux and two suspects were arrested on the scene while the third one managed to escape. Inside the vehicle police managed to recover two 9mm firearms, two Rifles, a R5 Cartridge along with four magazines and life rounds of ammunition.
The second vehicle, a Mercedes Benz was spotted at Bayswater after a long chase and one cartridge was found inside the vehicle with a bullet hole in it. No one was injured.
Police are still on the lookout for the third suspect.
