A police officer was woken up by a farmer who noticed three suspects on the farm trying to steal solar panels and two were caught through the use of night binoculars.

Apparently on 30 November 202, Rural Safety coordinator, Warrant Officer Phakiso Mahao of Arlington was alerted by Mr Fred Bertram that there are three suspects on the farm who are attempting to steal solar panels.

He responded to the call together with his colleagues who were on night shift, on their arrival they found holes on the fence which was cut.

Another farmer, Mr Japie Coetzee showed him the photos captured on camera. Other neighbouring farmers were also alerted and search was conducted.

They used night binoculars which managed to pick up two suspects who were arrested while trying to run away. Each suspects’ bag was searched and they found housebreaking implements in their possession.

The third suspects couldn’t be found. It was discovered that the two are foreign nationals. A case of attempted theft is opened.

The two suspects aged 41 and 44 are expected to be charged and to appear before the Petrus Steyn Magistrates’ court on 2 December 2021.
