AfriForum’s Welkom branch placed the Matjhabeng Local Municipality on terms on 15 August 2019, over raw sewage that flows into the backyards of various residential areas in the Doorn extension.

The community and other role-players approached AfriForum to put pressure on the municipality to ensure that the problem is addressed.

AfriForum requests the municipality urgently to resolve the sewage problem, as well as provide an action plan on preventing this same problem in future.

“It is shocking to see how the raw sewage dams up in residents’ properties. We will continue to put pressure on the municipality to ensure that the problem is resolved, and answers provided,” says Jp Nel, AfriForum’s Assistant Coordinator for the Hoogland.

The municipality was given a week to submit their action plan to AfriForum. The Welkom branch will continue to monitor the situation.

AfriForum’s Welkom branch invites the community to get involved in the organisation’s coming projects and actions. Join AfriForum and become part of the solution: SMS “Welkom” to 31481 (R1).
