Accused receives 10 year imprisonment for aggravated robbery

The Tseseng Detective worked successfully with the National Prosecuting Authority to ensure that the accused person, Malefane Mathinya serve 10 years of direct imprisonment for robbery under aggravating circumstances.

On Saturday, 25 September 2021 the 51-year-old man was on his way home crossing the donga when he was approached by the accused, who robbed him of his groceries, cash and cellphone by using force and stabbed him with a knife.

On 1 October 2021 at about 9:30, the accused person, Mathinya Malefane, was pointed out by people who witnessed the incident during that time and got arrested. He appeared before the Tseseng Magistrate Court and later the matter was transferred to the Phuthaditjhaba Regional Court for further trial. On 26 February 2024 Mathinya Malefane was sentenced to 10 years of direct imprisonment.
