Mara Willem Sekekete (40) and his company Movelisto Mavela (Pty) Ltd appeared before the Kroonstad Magistrates’ Court on 3 November 2021, where he was convicted and sentenced for contravening the Tax Administration Act.

A Preliminary probe by the South African Revenue Services (SARS) uncovered Sekekete’s fraudulent activities that cost the receiver of revenue (SARS) in excess of more than R2 million between 2016 and 2018.

The matter was reported to the Hawks Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team based in Bloemfontein. Sekekete was served with summons on 25 June 2020. He appeared in court on several occasions culminating in his recent conviction.

The court sentenced Sekekete to five (5) years imprisonment wholly suspended for five (5) on condition that he repay SARS the amount of R2 million on or before 31 October 2026.

The company was fined R500 000-00 wholly suspended for five (5) years.
