A tip-off leads to suspected live stock thieves arrested with 10 cattle

Members of Welkom Public Order Policing led by Warrant Officer Thabo Booy received information from a concerned resident of Welkom about suspected stolen livestock that was hidden near Oppenheimer Park Gold Course in Welkom.

The information was operationalised on 12 September 2024 at about 17:00 and the scene was visited where two men were found, matching the description provided by the informer, with five cattle and five calves. The suspects failed to disclose valid documentation to be in possession of the livestock. Two male suspects, aged 23 and 52 were arrested for possession of suspected stolen livestock.

The Odendaalsrus Stock Theft and Endangered Species Unit will take over the investigation. The two suspects are set to appear in Welkom Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 16 September 2024.
