Members of Welkom Public Order Policing were busy conducting crime combatting in the Kgotsong section of Thabong when they received information from a resident about a house where dagga is being sold.

The information was operationalised on 31 August 2023 at about 19:30, when a house was approached and a request was made to search the premises. The female resident informed the SAPS members that she is selling dagga to put food on her table. She voluntarily took out dagga hidden under the fridge and cash hidden under the headboard.

Members further searched the house to ensure all dagga be removed, and a 39-year-old woman was arrested for dealing in dagga. Police seized the dagga and cash.

Then the female suspect attempted to bribe the SAPS members with R5000-00 in cash for her freedom. A charge of bribery was added and the cash was also seized.

The suspect will appear on Monday, 04 September 2023 in Welkom Magistrate’s Court.
