A 47-year-old man was sentenced by the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court to four years’ imprisonment on Thursday, 16 November 2023.
Between January 2020 and May 2021, a fifteen-year old girl suffered at the hands of her uncle who reportedly sexually assaulted her whilst she was staying with her grandparents at Frederick Street, Heidedal in Bloemfontein.
The victim told her father about her ordeal whom in turn reported the matter to the police on Tuesday, 07 September 2021, thus resulting in his arrest shortly after the case was reported.
The trial ran for two years until he was found guilty of sexual assault and sentenced. The case was being investigated by the Mangaung Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS).
