2004 Farm murder of Johanna van Niekerk (72): Accused finally arrested, sentenced to life

FF Plus welcomes the life sentence handed down to a Free State farm murderer. Thapelo Mokoena (47) killed Johanna van Niekerk (72) and one of her farm workers, Tororo Tsholo (43), in August 2004 on the farm Dankbaarheid outside Bethlehem.

Mokoena has since evaded the law.

Although the final sentencing took a long time, the family and relatives of the victims may finally find peace. It does not bring back a life, but the killer has now been removed from society.

Farmers in many cases lose heart because the legal system fails them.

It creates trust when justice is finally done. In this case, the FF Plus is grateful that the murders are not yet an unsolved mystery.

The FF Plus will continue to put pressure on the government to pay attention to this type of crime to prevent further unnecessary bloodshed.

The FF Plus encourages all farmers to step up their vigilance and secure themselves within the framework of the law.
