2 Arrested with stolen Transnet copper cables, N1 Kroonstad

The members of Kroonstad Highway Patrol arrested two suspects in possession of suspected stolen copper cables during a Vehicle Check Point (VCP) operation on the N1 road on Wednesday, 11 May 2022.

The members alleged that they were conducting the VCP operation when a Toyota Quantum stopped before it could reach the location where members were setting up the roadblock and, immediately made a U-turn.

The vigilant members immediately followed the taxi and stopped it.

Upon searching the taxi, the members found that it was fully loaded with cut Transnet overhead copper cables suspected to have been stolen. The recovered suspected stolen copper cables are estimated to be the value of R68 127-50.

The two occupants, a male (29) and a female (38), were arrested.

The two suspects have been arrested and will be charged for possession of suspected stolen property.

They are expected to appear in Kroonstad Magistrates Court Friday, 13 May 2022.
