Police have arrested two suspects on the R712 Clarens Golden Gate Road after finding them in possession of suspected stolen property they couldn’t account for.

According to reports, on 15 April 2023 at about 14:30, a police member was at a police cycling event in Clarens when he noticed a suspicious looking white Nissan bakkie with FS registration and stopped it.

He noticed bags behind the bakkie and requested the driver to follow him to the police station for further searching.

At the police station, he found the bakkie carrying four horse’s saddles, bridle and 11 bags of maize. The occupants couldn’t account for the property. The vehicle was also seized as part of exhibit.

A case of possession of suspected stolen property has been opened and is under investigation.

The two suspects, aged 37 and 43, from Vogelfontein near Bethlehem are expected to appear before Bethlehem Magistrate court on Monday, 17 April 2023 facing a charge of possession of suspected stolen property.
