A coordinated rapid-response operation following a brutal farm attack in the Heilbron district this morning has led to the arrest of thirteen suspects, the recovery of stolen livestock and property, and commendation from top provincial police leadership.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Free State, Major General Solly Lesia, has praised the swift and coordinated response by police, the farming community, and other role players.

The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning. According to police reports, a farm worker was shot and killed during the attack. His 34-year-old wife was sexually assaulted and stabbed. She was immediately transported to a local hospital, where she received medical attention.

Following the report of the attack, an intensive search operation was launched. Police members worked in close collaboration with the farming community, private security partners, and other stakeholders.

This joint effort yielded results within hours. Law enforcement successfully traced and arrested thirteen suspects—comprising two females and eleven males. In addition to the arrests, authorities recovered twenty-two stolen sheep, a firearm, a minibus, and various household items.

The arrested suspects are scheduled to appear before the Heilbron Magistrate’s Court soon. They are expected to face a range of charges, including murder, attempted murder, rape, robbery, and stock theft.
