Khomotso Phahlane, the former acting national police commissioner, appeared in the specialized trade crime court in Johannesburg.

He and police chief of supply management, Ravichandran Pillay, were arrested on fraud charges.

They stand together with former Gauteng police commissioner Deliwe De Lange and officials Vimpie Phineas Manthata, Ramahlapi Johannes Mokwena, James Ramanjalum and Nombhuruza Napo in the line of alleged fraud of more than R80 million.

Phahlane dismisses the case as attempts by Robert McBride and IPID to improve McBride’s image while McBride himself is accused of corruption.
