Cape Town – Police are on the hunt for a gang of gunmen after four men were shot in the legs in the streets of Beacon Valley on Monday afternoon. According to police spokesman Captain FC van Wyk, a white VW Golf travelling along Oval East Street had stopped in front of the four men.
The driver, and three passengers, opened fire.
“When we arrived on the scene, the four victims had already been taken to a nearby hospital for treatment,” Van Wyk said.
The shots hit the victims, aged 24, 25, 27 and 62, in the legs.
Van Wyk said one of the shooters had jumped out of the car during the incident.
“An attempted murder case has been opened for investigation but no arrests have been made yet,” he said.
The incident took place at about 2.30pm.
The shooting follows another little more than a month ago, in which a 12-year-old, Jucinta Matroos, a mother and a 15-year-old boy were caught in gang crossfire outside a shop in Beacon Valley.
This sparked an outcry from the community, and even saw former minister Trevor Manuel visit Matroos’s family.
Since then, reports have suggested there was an unofficial truce between rival gangs in the area. According to residents, the Mongrels and the 28s have been embroiled in a long-standing feud. It was apparently this hostility that had led to the deaths of innocent bystanders. ….
