The former acting chief executive of Prasa, Mthuthuzeli Swartz, was released on bail pending charges of fraud, money laundering and theft of more than R1.5 million.

Swartz was allegedly involved in the theft of train equipment in the Eastern Cape during 2013.

He was dismissed in April 2018 as head of Prasa and finally dismissed in November 2018 from Prasa’s service.

Fourteen complaints were brought against him, including misconduct, abuse of power, victimization, waste of money, conflicting interests and dishonesty. R2,000 bail was granted and the case will resume on 27 February 2019.
