Five people died when a bakkie and a car collided between Barberton and Nelspruit in Mpumalanga province on Saturday night‚ ER24 medical emergency service reported.
Only one person out of six people travelling in the two vehicles survived the accident‚ which occurred on Louw’s Creek road. One of the four occupants of the bakkie died after paramedics and rescue personnel battled for over an hour to free him and the sole survivor from the wreckage.
The survivor was admitted to the Rob Ferreira Hospital in Nelspruit with serious injuries.
In other accidents reported by ER24‚ a woman was killed and two others sustained minor injuries when their vehicle overturned on Albertina Sisula Drive in Bosmont‚ west of Johannesburg‚ in the early hours of Sunday‚ and a man was killed another sustained multiple injuries on Saturday when their vehicles collided on the R26 approximately seven kilometres outside Clocolan in the Free State.
