The controversial prof. Chris Malikane, the adviser to Malusi Gigaba, the finance minister, had plunged into more controversy when he raised the idea of an armed struggle to bring about radical economic transformation.

He added that if South Africa should follow the same path as Zimbabwe and Venezuela, as he believes, South Africa has to tackle the worst because the country’s economic crisis can take the same dimensions as in the two countries mentioned.

He made his threatening statements at a function of the group Blacks in Dialogue, held in a luxury hotel in Johannesburg. The radical group Black First Land First organized the event.

He said transformation would not be easy. Therefore, a two-thirds majority must be reached to amend the country’s constitution to provide for nationalization and expropriation without compensation. If a two-thirds majority can not be achieved, war will be the only other option to achieve radical economic transformation, he threatened.
