FF Plus welcomes acquittal of Pieter Doorewaard and Phillip Schutte

The FF Plus welcomes, on 27 November 2020, the finding of the Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein that Pieter Doorewaard and Phillip Schutte are not guilty of murder.

This case was shrouded in controversy right from the start because the state initially submitted insufficient evidence to the court.

The state’s main witness repeatedly contradicted himself and critical information that was submitted to the court by the defence was apparently not taken into account.

The fact that the two young men and their families had to endure trauma and disruption for three long years is scandalous.

The ruling creates an opportunity for justice to prevail and for the people who are responsible for violating Doorewaard and Schutte’s human rights and discrediting the South African legal system to be held accountable, both criminally and civilly.
