Two-year-old Jake Human watched as paramedics and Pretoria community watch members frantically tried to save the life of his dying father.
Construction entrepreneur Dirk Human, 41, was on Wednesday hacked with a bush knife before he was shot in the head on a Boschkop smallholding he and his family were renting.
The attack, which left one of the killers wounded, came 24 hours after 250 Boschkop residents embarked on a massive anti-crime patrol in the area.
It occurred moments after Human’s wife, Yolanda, left their house to drop off their eight-year-old son, Dirk jnr, at school on her way to work, and came three weeks after an attempted burglary at their home.
Wednesday’s was the second attack in the area since January when architect Johan Swart escaped with his life when he was shot on his smallholding in an armed robbery.
