On social media, reports of expected land invasions in vast areas of the country are emerging.
It was prompted by the EFF’s threat to occupy land on 6 April.
During a rural safety strategy meeting that took place between TAU SA and the police in Northern Transvaal, the provincial police confirmed that their intelligence section picked up nothing on the potential large-scale occupations. The list of places where invasions would likely take place is not from the police.
Mr. Dricus Botha, regional representative of TAU in the organization’s Northeast region, said farmers should be alert anyway and regularly patrol their farms. He also asked farmers to make notice boards stating “No Access / Private Property” on fences and gates and to ensure gates are closed. “Farmers should please make sure when they see people who should not be on the farm, to immediately contact the community security or police so that they can be removed by police before incidents arise,” said Botha.
Limpopo SAPS confirmed to TAU SA that they will assist and help when trespassing incidents are reported, even if it is only two people. It is not necessary as a prerequisite to prove ownership of the property.
