The government has used the farmers’ expertise to help promote their radical economic transformation, while ultimately leading to the ANC’s stated goal of socialism and communism.

That was the warning from Mr. Bennie van Zyl, TAU’s general manager, during a sustainable feasibility seminar presented in Pretoria.

Mr. Van Zyl said the trend is to constantly be responsive to the ANC’s plans, which failed everyone anyway.

The purpose of the conference was to involve the entire agricultural value chain to set up an agricultural plan. This should proactively be taken to establish a sustainable alternative to the government’s plans, ideologically driven and that do not take into account economic realities.

The meeting decided that such a plan should be drawn up. TAU hosted its Agricultural Plan for sustainability as a discussion document where the debate should be further engaged. The president of TAU SA, Mr. Louis Meintjes, however, said the plan should not be a plan of an organization, but of the entire agricultural sector, including the value chain.

The attendees, representing various institutions in the value chain, supported the idea of such a plan, and further talks will now be held with stakeholders to have a larger follow-up meeting and to draw up a plan.
