Farmer shot suspects during farm attack

Sweizer Reyneke, South Africa – A farmer shot two suspects who hold his mother in law captive at gun point in his home.

The 4 suspects arrived on the farm near Amalia, in a Nissan Navarra Bakkie and told his mother in law they want to buy sheep.

Brigadier Thulani Ngubane, spokesman for the police, said three of the men went into the house and the fourth man took out a firearm and forced his mother in law to follow the three men into the house.

They were inside the house when the woman’s son-in-law emerged and realised what was happening.

The farmer took out his firearm and shot one man in the face and another one in the chest.

The four men fled in the Nissan Navarra bakkie.

Neighbours were notified and they followed the suspects, who abandoned the Navarra and fled on foot, near Sweizer Reyneke.

The two wounded suspects 34 and 38 years old were arrested and they are under police guard in the Sweizer Reyneke hospital.

The men would appear in the Schweizer-Reneke Magistrate’s Court on attempted robbery charges.

The other two were still at large, Ngubane said.
