Farmer overpowered by attackers and deprived of his firearm

In the early morning hours of April 29, 2015, an elderly black couple was attacked and tied on a farm in the Droogekloof area near Warmbaths. The attackers had a firearm. The suspects also wanted to attack the owner, Mr. Wessels. The couple managed to untie themselves and raised alarm at the owner.

Meanwhile, the attackers fled.

Mr. Wessels contacted the SAPS, neighbours and the farm watch community.

Everyone was soon on the scene and the roads were dominated.

Approximately at 10:00 one of the farmers in the area, who helped to look for the suspects, was overpowered by the attackers on the road and deprived of his .38 Special revolver.

After this, Die Spoorsnyers followed the tracks. Tracks were followed until the next morning at about 00:30. The attackers began to use “backtrack” tactics and occasionally started walking over the tracks of Die Spoorsnyers. Die Spoorsnyers were worried about a possible ambush situation and withdrew.

The suspects are known in the area, and previously worked on the farm.

Copies of their IDs are in the owner’s possession. Both attackers are South African citizens.

Thanks for farmers in the area who dominate the roads. Thanks to the SAPS air wing of Pietersburg and Warmbaths, headed by Col. Lindie Marx. Thanks also for the assistance of the person with the red R44 helicopter.

Vossie also wish to thank his fellow Spoorsnyers, Chris Human, Flip van Rooyen (all the way from Johannesburg who came and help, it is one and a half hour drive) and AO Gielie Herbs and other Members of the SAPS Dog Unit of Nylstroom.
