Farmer and two robbers killed in North West

A farmer and two men who attacked him were killed near Leeudoringstad, North West police said on Sunday. Three men tied up two employees, a man and a woman, on the farm Droekraal around 14:00 on Saturday, Colonel Sabata Mokgwabone said.

When the farm owner arrived a few minutes later he was shot dead. The three put him in the boot of his car and fled the scene. The two employees managed to untie themselves and pressed a panic button which alerted neighbouring farmers. One of them saw the men leave in the farmer’s vehicle.

They gave chase and a shootout ensued about 30km from Makwassie. Two of the robbers died on the scene and the third one was arrested. Police confiscated four firearms.

The 24-year-old, who was arrested, was under police guard in hospital. He was expected to appear in the Leeudoringstad Periodical Magistrate’s Court soon.

Mokgwabone said a preliminary investigation found that the 24-year-old had been accused of house robbery in 2012, but was acquitted…
