A farm attack took place on 1 May 2020, on the Groenfontein farm in Nigel, Gauteng province of South Africa, at 13:00. Patricia Selkon (77) was overpowered by a group of attackers who held a gun against her head, then hit her over the head and dragged into the house in an unconscious state.
A farm worker, Cornelius Mofokeng, had earlier been surprised by several black men with balaclavas and tied up outside in a store room. Selkon had gone outside to investigate the barking dogs.
The attackers took a cellphone, cash and two firearms from the house and fled in Selkon’s vehicle, a Nissan Qashqai. Mofokeng managed to untie himself in the meantime and ran to the house of a neighbor, which is about 2 km away.
Whilst running he saw in which direction the attackers fled with Patricia’s vehicle. Mofokeng and the neighbor pursued the robbed vehicle when suddenly the attackers opened fire on them. One bullet came through the front window of the bakkie and passed between the two.
