The civil rights organisation AfriForum on 23 May 2023, submitted further written comments against the Expropriation Bill [B 23 – 2020].

This follows after the Gauteng Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Infrastructure Development and Property Management opened an opportunity for comments on the bill.

AfriForum will also participate in the following events in June for oral presentations regarding this bill:

On 1 June at 10:00 in the Akasia Community Centre in Pretoria.
On 5 June 2023: 10:00 in the Mogale City Centenary Hall in Krugersdorp.

AfriForum, emphasises that, were this bill to pass, it would have a devastating impact on all South Africans, especially in the context of home ownership, food security and economic devastation.

According to Ernst van Zyl, Campaign Officer for Strategy and Content at AfriForum, individuals and organisations must use every opportunity to oppose this dangerous bill.

“AfriForum strongly believes in the power of public pressure. If there are opportunities to apply pressure, it is our duty as citizens and civil society organisations to do so,” concludes Van Zyl.
