After the amendment to provide for Expropriation Without Compensation (EWC) in Article 25 was voted out in Parliament, the ANC has now dusted off the Expropriation Act.

The Expropriation Act of 2020 will be presented to the National Assembly on 14 September, which means that this act can already be promulgated in November.

“Today in South Africa we experience that the ANC and various other role players such as the EFF and BLF have over time started dishing out a distorted and misplaced version of history as if it were the truth. A new account of how the history of land ownership unfolded suddenly takes hold with no credible source documents to back it up. These half-truths and distortions have been told so many times that they are now believed to be the truth. It is these lies that currently form the basis of the attack against land ownership that the ANC and others embody in their policy environment, and which then goes into practice,” says Mr. Bennie van Zyl, TLU SA General Manager.

“These lies must be rejected with the contempt they deserve because silence implies condonation. Haven’t we all been silent on this for too long? We need to act more constructively to prevent this from becoming the norm.”

TLU SA proposes the following two actions considering the impact of the Expropriation Act.

“The accusations that we stole the land have been made so many times that it is now accepted as the truth. However, it is defamation to falsely accuse the parties involved,” says Mr. Bennie van Zyl, TLU SA General Manager.

“We encourage our supporters to file a formal complaint with the SAPS for crimen injuria whenever someone makes such an allegation and request that it be investigated. Something must be done to reverse the lie that is widely propagated without hindrance.”
