Ex-cop arrested for housebreaking

A 32-year-old ex-policeman was arrested while allegedly trying to break into a house in Mondeor, Johannesburg, Gauteng police said on Sunday.

He and two other people allegedly derailed a gate in Brabazon Street while the owner was home on Friday, spokesperson Lt-Gen Katlego Mogale said.

They used a pickaxe to break through the burglar bars.

Mogale said the officer used to work at the vehicle identification system, but received a dishonourable discharge in 2009.

Police were looking for his two alleged accomplices. Police recovered the Nissan Almera the men used and determined that it had not been listed as stolen.
