Loekie Trichardt (76) shot a suspected robber in the driveway of his home in Horizon, Roodepoort, on Monday July 20, 2015, during an armed robbery.
Warrant Officer Nonhlanhla Khumalo, spokesperson for the police, said Trichardt was admitted to Netcare Milpark Hospital after also being shot during the struggle. It is not known how seriously the man is injured.
Khumalo said Trichardt’s wife, Elsie, came from the store in the afternoon when she was attacked and assaulted by four men in her driveway.
Trichardt heard his wife screaming outside, and he run out of the house with his gun. During the scuffle with the robbers, shots were fired and Trichardt was wounded in the stomach. He returned fire and one of the robbers was shot dead in the driveway. The other three robbers fled in a white VW Golf without license plates, she said.
According to Khumalo a case of attempted murder and armed robbery is under investigation.
No one has been arrested.
