Elderly man attacked and robbed on his farm

Two men were arrested over the course of two days for robbery after continuous investigations of two shift members of Brackenfell SAPS.

Early Tuesday morning (2016-04-26) a 64-year-old man was robbed shortly after he arrived on his farm in Brackenfell, Cape Town. He was delivering newspapers and upon his return, he was approached by an unknown man who demanded his cell phone and money.

When he replied that he had nothing, the suspect attempted to attack him with a big knife. The man tried to ward off the attack by grabbing the knife, and sustained serious hand injuries. A second suspect, who at the time attempted to gain entrance to the man’s home, came to assist his partner.

The two suspects fled on foot when a security vehicle arrived. The man was taken for medical treatment. A case of robbery with weapon other than a firearm was opened at Brackenfell SAPS.

On Wednesday (2016-04-27) the same two members, received information from the community regarding the possible identity of the suspects. Members followed up all information and arrested a 22-year-old man from Brackenfell the same afternoon. They also found property in the suspect’s possession that could link him to a robbery that took place Tuesday (2016-04-26) afternoon between 17:00 and 17:30 on Okovango Bridge, Brackenfell.

The two uniform members arrested a second suspect (32 years) at 10:00 on April 28, 2016 at his home in Brackenfell.

The suspects were detained on two cases of robbery with weapon other than a firearm, as well as possession of stolen goods.

Both suspects will appear in Blue Downs court on Tuesday, 2016-05-03.
