Elderly Afrikaner couple Louis and Sandra swanepoel murdered

May 16 2014 – Nothing appears to be missing from the homestead of the Mooiplaats smallholding where an elderly Afrikaner couple Louis Swanepoel  and Sandra Swanepoel were killed This is just 1km away from the Boschkop police station near Pretoria, reports journalist Du P Martins.

The bodies of the couple, aged 82 and 80, were discovered by their live-in son Johan Swanepoel in the early afternoon at around 12h30 on May 16 2014. Mr Swanepoel was found with a bullet-wound in his torso, (‘liggaam’ in Afrikaans) and Mrs Swanepoel’s body was found in the hallway near the backdoor. The police did not say what kind of injuries she sustained.

Mr Swanepoel junior lives with his parents but he left the house early that morning. SAPS captain Marissa van der Merwe of the Boschkop SAPS said ‘the circumstances are odd: we still have to determine whether anything was missing from the house’ which is located about 1km from the Boschkop police station.

Mr Swanepoel junior was too distraught to speak to the news media about the event, except to say that he had a very close relationship with his parents. Police reservist Bennie Malan who knows the couple, said Mrs Swanepoel was a retired teacher: ‘she was much-loved and looked after our children whenever we were busy with reservist-work,’ he told the journalist. He also said that Mr Swanepoel senior was an extraordinary man who even at his advanced age, was still maintaining the engine in his own car and was always ready to help others with repair-work.

This is the third murder in the area. Mr Charles Groenewald was shot dead during an armed robbery on Monday. He tried to defend himself and shot dead one of his attackers, reportedly a police-reservist from KwaNdebele…
