Soon we will have to eat coal and platinum instead of maize and potatoes.
Mr. Dricus Botha, the regional representative of TLU SA’s North Region, said, after announcing the new proposed water tariffs for Limpopo.
Consequently, the increase for water consumed for household and industrial purposes, which includes mines will be 0%. Irrigation tariffs will increase by 4.6%, and will have a significant impact on agriculture and will likely reduce production as further increase costs incur.
Forestry tariffs will be increased by 50% regarding the proposals.
TAU SA is collecting information to object to the tariffs. Although there will be a national consultation in August, TLU SA will not attend because they currently have an unresolved dispute with Water Affairs.
“In all cases, there is usually minimal consultation, the meeting takes the form of submissions by the department and then the proposed increase for the following year. There is time for questions and answers. There are many questions, but answers are stereotyped and worth nothing” said Mr. Botha.
