A combined intelligence driven operation led to the tracing and subsequent arrest of an alleged rape suspect.
It is alleged that on 6 June 2022 at about 20:45, the suspect allegedly raped a 19 year old victim at Dibinkonzo village.
The victim and suspect knew each other. He held her at gun point with a toy pistol and raped her several times. She was repeatedly assaulted on her head with the handgun until she lost consciousness.
He then stole her cellphone and two phones of children in the house where he was residing as an employee.
On 18 July 2022, the 37-year-old suspect was arrested at Area 13 in Maletswai by Aliwal North K9 and Crime intelligence members. The toy pistol and cellphones were recovered.
The suspect will appear in court on Wednesday, 20 July 2022.
The Acting District Commissioner Brig Asogran Naidoo commended the members on the good team work that resulted in the arrest.
