The 50 years old Sean Kelly whose bail application was heard in the Knysna Magistrate’s Court on 13 and 14 February 2019,, was remanded in custody pending further investigation. His bail was denied. The matter was postponed to 29 March 2019.

Minutes after the brutal attack on a 67 years old victim, police arrested a 50 years-old man in connection her death. Preliminary investigation suggest that the victim, who was later identified as Lorna Hampson, was attacked by the suspect who was armed with a hammer at about 20:00 on Saturday 2 February 2019, on the sidewalk in front of her house at 16 Marigold Street, Sedgefield.

Members found the body of the deceased on the sidewalk, covered in blood. She had already succumbed to the extent of the injuries sustained and the blow to her head.

An autopsy is scheduled to be performed on the body to determine the possible cause of death. The motive for this attack is still being investigated.

Two cases of Malicious Damage to Property has also been added to the Murder case after the suspect allegedly assaulted and damaged the vehicles of members of the public who were first responders to the scene.

The suspect is scheduled to appear in the Knysna magistrates’ court on 5 February 2019 on counts of Murder and Malicious to Property.
