“The brutal murder of an innocent and unsuspecting 89-year-old elderly woman has sent shock waves in the corridors of the SAPS and everything possible will be done to ensure that whoever is involved in this horrendous act, faces the wrath and full might of the law.” These are the words of the Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Liziwe Ntshinga on receiving the terrific news of the killing of an elderly woman on Thursday morning the 7 May 2020 in Queenstown.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the 89-year-old’s body was discovered at about 9:00 in the morning by a neighbor who went to check on her in an Old Age Home where she is alleged to have resided. On arrival in the place where the elderly lived, the neighbor noticed that she was not responding.

The manager was immediately informed and on investigation, the elderly woman was found already deceased with wounds on the upper body. The police were called to visit the scene of crime and a murder case was subsequently opened for investigation. The motive for the killing is not yet known. No arrest has been made at this stage.

“Crimes against Women and Children remain a priority for the South African Police Service and for this particular reason, the police will not rest until the culprits are found in order to face justice. Disrespect and the violation of the rights of the elderly in our society cannot be tolerated regardless of any reasons advanced by the perpetrators.” Lieutenant General Ntshinga concluded.

Police are appealing to anyone who can assist with the information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects to please contact Detective Sgt Singatwa Dimaza at 0783263774 or call the SAPS Crime Stop number 0860010111.
