Willowvale Regional Magistrate’s Court sentenced 43 year old man, Mzikayise Gungqiso, to undergo 18 years imprisonment for raping a 52 year old woman. The accused person was sentenced on Tuesday 19 February 2019, at Willowvale Regional Magistrate’s Court.
It is alleged that the 52 year old woman was from a traditional ceremony on 4 July 2018, at about 23:00 at Phaphazini Locality, Mboya Village, Willowvale. While the victim was still going home, she felt someone who grabbed her from behind and raped her at an open field.
The victim was rescued by another woman. The accused ran off. Both women identified the accused as he is a local man. Acting Butterworth Cluster Commander Colonel Ncedo Ngwendze has welcomed the sentence handed to the accused. He advised women not to walk alone especially at night and in the dark areas.
