Wife arrested for murder of Eastern Cape man

Dutywa police detectives have made a breakthrough in the murder of a man who was found dead in his bedroom in Mabheleni Location, Candu Village, Dutywa, by arresting his 42-year-old wife, Eastern Cape police said on Saturday.

She was arrested on Friday and two other men were arrested in the early hours of Saturday in the Dutywa area, Captain Jackson Manatha said.

The trio would appear in the Dutywa Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of murder.

Manatha said in a statement on Friday the 57-year-old man’s wife and a member of her family allegedly left him alone in his bedroom at about 9pm on Thursday to go and prepare dinner in the kitchen.

“When they came back, they knocked at the door with no response. The wife of the deceased pushed the door open. They found the deceased stabbed to death. The wife of the deceased screamed and the neighbours came to the scene.”

The man had been stabbed in the upper body. The motive for the murder was unclear, Manatha said.

Butterworth policing cluster acting commander Colonel Sipho Hokwana praised the Dutywa detectives for working around the clock to bring the suspects to the book.
