Detective officers conducted a special suspect raiding operation under Operation Sikhona and successfully netted in 39 suspects during an early morning sting across Nelson Mandela Bay metro.
A multidisciplinary team of police officials from 14 stations, detectives from the NMB District Commissioner’s office and specialised units formed part of the operation which started at 01:00 until 10:00 the morning of 27 May 2022.
The focus of the operation was to search for and arrest outstanding suspects wanted on serious and violent cases.
The arrests included suspects wanted for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of drugs, robbery, housebreaking, possession of suspected stolen property, domestic violence as well as petty crimes.
All the arrested suspects will appear in their respective courts soon.
Nelson Mandela Bay District Detective Commander, Brigadier Luntu Ngubelanga commended the dedication and determination of the detective officers for ensuring that suspects are arrested and brought before a court of law. ‘People delving in criminal activities are warned that we, the SAPS will make life difficult for them and will stop at nothing to squeeze their space to zero. We will hunt them down until they are arrested and successfully prosecuted,’ added Brig Ngubelanga.
