
Police are investigating a deadly armed robbery at the Engen Garage on Settlersway, which occurred at approximately 23:00 on Tuesday, 12 August 2025. The incident resulted in one fatality and involved explosives, gunfire, and multiple charges, including murder and robbery.
According to initial reports, four armed suspects entered the premises and confronted two employees inside a parked vehicle. The assailants forced the victims into the shop at gunpoint, robbed them of their cellphones, and ordered them to lie on the floor. The suspects then detonated explosives to access the ATM cash.
As they fled the scene, the gunmen fired shots indiscriminately, striking and killing an innocent bystander with a gunshot to the head. The suspects escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash and remain at large.
Authorities have registered a case encompassing charges of murder, two counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances, Contravention of the Explosives Act, and theft. Forensic teams have processed the crime scene, and the identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) has urged anyone with information about the incident to contact Crime Stop at 08600 10111 or submit anonymous tips via the MySAPS App.
“SAPS remains committed to ensuring community safety and will provide updates as the investigation progresses,” a police spokesperson stated.
