Networking and gaining the community’s trust is crucial in the immediate arrest of suspects and successful prosecution in court. An attempted murder suspect (25) handed himself over to Bethelsdorp police after hearing that police are hot on his trail.

It is alleged that on 13 February 2018, at about 15:30, a minibus was travelling in Rensburg Street in Bethelsdorp with three passengers. As the taxi driver stopped and dropped off an 18 year old teenager, a shot was fired at the teenager.

The taxi driver (26) intervened and reversed in an attempt to shield the teenager. The shooter, an Upstand Dogs gang member then fired a shot at the driver before running off.

No one was injured and 2 cases of attempted murder was opened.

The suspect will appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 16 February 2018.
