An intervention by Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Liziwe Ntshinga to rid Mthatha, Qumbu, Engcobo and Libode of illegal firearms and illegal trade in alcohol, hit the right notes again after one male suspect aged 32 years was arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm.

The arrest followed after police recovered in his possession a 9mm Star pistol with one Magazine without rounds. The suspect is from Ncalukeni locality, Kroza Administrative area, Qumbu. He is expected to appear at Qumbu Magistrate’s Court soon facing a charge of possession of illegal firearm.

The team comprising of Qumbu members, Qumbu Vispol, Sulenkama Vispol and Stock Theft Unit conducted a joint First Light Operation at Qumbu and Sulenkama areas raiding unclosed tarvens, illegal alcohol traders and unlicensed firearms on the night of 22 August 2019.

On the same property eight cases of Castle Milk Stout were confiscated at Ebajodini hidden next to a shack.

“Every firearm recovered is a step closer to achieving our objective of making Eastern Cape a safer place to live, work and do business. Getting rid of illicit trade in alcohol and eliminating proliferation of illegal weapons will definitely impact positive in our efforts of fighting crime, “said Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner applauding the team’s work.
