Crimes against women and children have always been a priority for the South African Police Service and through thorough investigations conducted by dedicated detectives from the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit in Uitenhage. Detectives ensured that the following two perpetrators were sentenced effectively for the crimes they have committed.

Sputa Thandoxolo (38) was found guilty and sentenced to 18 years imprisonment by the Uitenhage Regional Court on Monday, 8 October 2018, for the rape of a 14 year old girl on 25 April 2015. According to testimony, the victim was sent by her grandmother to a shop in Kwanobuhle on 25 April 2015. Underway to the shop, the accused took the victim under false pretences to his house in Kwanobuhle where he raped her whilst playing loud music. The victim managed to free herself and report a case of rape at SAPS Kwanobuhle and the accused was arrested the same day, 25 April 2015.

In a second rape case, Zweni Siyabulela (32) was found guilty and also sentenced effectively by the Uitenhage Regional Court on Monday, 8 October 2018, on a charge of rape. Siyabulela raped an 18 year old victim on 19 March 2018 at a premise in Kwanobuhle. He was arrested on 26 March 2018 and he was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for the rape of the 18 year old woman.

The acting Uitenhage Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ronald Koll has welcomed the sentences and commended the detectives from FCS for their comprehensive work which led to the convictions and effective sentencing by the Uitenhage Regional Court.
